Vincent Stanley, director of philosophy at Patagonia and co-author of The Responsible Company, is an inspiring supporter of the green economy and a skilled storyteller. Vincent has been working with Patagonia since 1973, in formal executive positions and on a more informal level. More precisely, Vincent Stanley has been designated as Patagonia’s chief storyteller. Within this informal position, Vincent has become the narrator of the company’s history, evolution and impacts.
To share their story on a larger level, Vincent Stanley helped develop the Footprint Chronicles – an interactive website that outlines the social and environmental impacts of Patagonia’s products – Patagonia Books, and the Common Threads Partnership. This initiative was launched based on the cradle-to-cradle principles of circular economy. It’s aim is to reclaim all their produce, at the of its life cycle, and recycle it into a new product of similar value. On a bigger level, it is an initiative which addresses the four R’s of sustainability – reduce, repair, reuse, recycle – through promotion of long-lasting, recycled products.
Vincent Stanley has been promoting such a sustainable approach in Patagonia over the long-term, trying to mirror the company’s values through conscious marketing. A majority of these efforts have been focused on making sustainability an integral part of the brands identity and quality promise. Apart from storytelling and marketing, Vincent has also been ensuring the sustainability of Patagonia’s supply chain through increasing its transparency. In this way, Patagonia and consumers can trace their end product to its independent elements and verify its sustainable nature. This higher transparency also reinforces adherence to sustainability standards of all suppliers in Patagonia’s chain.
Vincent Stanley has a multi-faceted understanding and approach to promoting sustainability. Nudge is proud that Vincent can share more of his knowledge and experiences as a champion of sustainability, and inspire young professionals to create impact at the Nudge Global Impact Challenge 2017.
