Nigerian Breweries Plc., (an operating company of Heineken International) is the pioneer and largest brewing company in Nigeria. Incorporated in 1946, the company began operations in 1949 when Star, Nigeria’s first beer, was bottled in the Lagos Brewery. Over the next decades the company expanded its operations to seven breweries and two malting plants located in Lagos, Aba, Kaduna, Ibadan, Enugu, Ota and Onitsha.

The Company has a rich portfolio of high quality brands which includes: Star Lager Beer – the first in its portfolio and Nigeria’s first indigenous Beer, Gulder, Maltina, Legend Stout, Amstel Malta, Heineken, Fayrouz, Goldberg Lager, Life Beer, Malta Gold and Climax Energy drink. In 2013, Nigerian Breweries launched Star lite Lager Beer, Nigeria’s first light beer.

Sustainability is an important business priority for Nigerian Breweries. The sustainability agenda is contained in a Brewing a Better World (BaBW) program which focuses on protecting water resources, reducing carbon emissions, sourcing raw materials sustainably, encouraging responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages, empowering communities and protecting the health and safety of employees.

Over the years the company has created sustainable economic opportunities for local farmers of sorghum by making huge investments in the sorghum value chain, investing nearly one billion Naira over the past 10 years. Thus far, nearly 250.000 farmers have benefitted from our work in the sorghum value chain. Similarly, we are working to extract value from cassava in partnership with other organisations.
